LH Hiranandani Hospital Kidney Racket: 5 Doctors sent to custody

Four doctors including the CEO of LH Hiranandani Hospital were arrested on Tuesday evening for their illegal act of kidney racketing on August 9 sent to a judicial custody till August 26, reported ANI.
The CEO of LH Hiranandani Hospital, Dr. Sujith Chatterjee and Hospital Medical Director, Dr. Anurag Nai, Urologist Dr. Mukesh Shah, Nephrologist Dr. Mukesh Shete and Jr. Surgeon Dr. Prakash Shetty were arrested by Mumbai Police; and as per the Maharashtra’s Health Department they identified two kidney sale cases of LH Hiranandani Hospital, Powai.
According to data accessed by The Indian Express, a 23-year-old man from Pipli Kala village in Uttar Pradesh donated a kidney to a 30-year-old woman working in New Delhi on March 17 this year. The donor, Sunder Singh — whose role as an intermediary between the Hiranandani hospital and arrested agent Bhijendra Bhisen led to the unraveling of the current case — had posed as the recipient’s brother.
According to documents submitted to the hospital, Singh and the woman recipient were shown as residents of Bhayander in suburban Mumbai. Singh held a ration card, believed to be Arrested nephrologist Dr Mukesh Shete was the consultant nephrologist for Surat businessman Brijkishore Jaiswal, 48, and Anand-based donor Shobha Thakur, whose transplant surgery was stopped minutes before it was to start on July 14. Thakur, 42, had been presented as Jaiswal’s wife.
